After Kathi, the producer of "Happy Ever After", asked if I would like to design the title and credits for the short film, I was immediately on board: It's about a queer retelling of Disney's Cinderella story. It introduces three non-binary fairies who accompany Cinderella and her prince and introduce them to alternative, queer lifestyles in “our” world. This new perspective sparks something truly beautiful - a strange awakening for both of them. It's as if they see the world with new eyes, full of colors and possibilities than ever before.
In the short film, there's this key element: an enchanted cake that turns the prince and Cindy queer. I wanted to capture that in my title by having "Happy Ever After" written in the cake icing. To make a nod to Disney, I'm using the iconic glittering Disney trail, like in the opening of a Disney movie. It's all about dialing up the fairytale charm.
I experimented with two different textures for the glaze: a smooth one (Variant B) and a glittery one (Variant A). As of now, Variant B has been approved by the director, but personally, I find the other one more suitable as it really captures that classic cake icing look. I plan to present this option to my team soon.
True to the title, I wrote the trades in cake frosting. However, I left out the glitter particles to make them stand out from the title.
